Last Update: September 12, 2017
The Ohio Valley Woodturner Guild's new Learning Center located in the Carl, Robert, Richard and Dorothy Lindner Annex of the Kennedy Heights Art Center allows us to offer a variety of classes. These currently include hands-on classes, three-day classes, and turn and learn classes. The hands-on classes and three-day classes provide you with opportunities to learn from some of the world's best turners without having to leave home. As in the past, hands-on classes will be conducted on Sunday following professional demonstrations. During 2016 professional turners will conduct three-day classes during the week following their demonstration or as stand alone sessions. These classes will be similar (a shortened version) to what one might take at a school such as Marc Adams or Arrowmont or John C. Campbell or Anderson Ranch. This is a new offering that started in 2016 and is of great service to our members.
These classes typically run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the Sunday following our Saturday monthly meetings. Each hands-on workshop is limited to 8 participants. The classes are usually in high demand so it is important that you register early in order to assure that space is available.
The Learning Center is equipped with 8 Jet midi lathes (1221's), three larger lathes for instructor use, a band saw and other equipment normally used in a woodturning shop.
In addition to the registration fee of $100.00 there may be a materials fee for wood or other items. If this is the case you will be notified in advance so that you can provide the fee to John Jackobs for these materials. If you have your own tools and personal safety equipment you should bring them. For beginners OVWG has a limited selection of basic tools that you may use. If special tools are required for a specific project you will be notified in advance so that you have time to secure (purchase or borrow) the items needed. In some cases the professional demonstrator may have the needed tools for sale or she/he may bring extras for you to use. At any rate you will be provided with a tool list well before the class is conducted.
Below, you will find a list of the hands-on classes currently scheduled for 2017. Details of what will be covered in these classes will be added to the website under the Event Calendar date as the date comes closer. If you are interested in taking a class you may reserve a space by registering on-line and pay with your credit card. You can do this by clicking on "Register here" by the desired event listed below or on the class on the "Event Calendar". Once there, click on the "Register Now" button located on the right side of the window then follow the various steps indicated (contact me if you have difficulty). If you do not want to register on-line you may contact me by phone or e-mail and send a check made out to OVWG for $100.00 to:
PO Box 328
Winchester, OH 45697
If you cancel a class, your class fee will be refunded only if there is someone on the wait list (see below) to fill your spot.
Be sure to include appropriate contact information such as e-mail address and telephone number (this is automatic if you register on-line). Once the class is filled you are given the option of placing your name on a wait list. This can also be completed on-line by following the same steps as outlined above. No fee will be required until you are notified that a space is available.
Reservations are not complete until payment has been received!
