Intermediate-Advanced Box Turning.  Create a decorative box with OVWG's master of box making! Prerequisite: Intermediate turning skills. Intro to Woodturning or prior T&L series. You Should have turn several boxes, minimum  3-5 (or take the basic box class) This should not be your first Box. however  "PLEASE DO NOT ENROLL IF YOU HAVE TAKEN THIS CLASS BEFORE.  Priority is being given to first-time students.  If you would like to repeat the class, your name can be placed on a waitlist by contacting Mark Malmstrom.  If the class does not fill with first-time students, repeat students will be given the opportunity to enroll in the order of requests received."





  • Topic:  Learn to turn a basic lidded box.  We will take a blank through shaping, hollowing, lid fitting and sanding.  If time allows, we will also explore inlaying the top with a decorative inlay.  Tools used will include gouges, scrapers, chucks, and sanding supplies..  
  • Skill Level:  Intermediate skills, must have comfort and established abilities with gouges and scrapers. 
  • Project:  Complete a turned box ready for finish.
  • Materials:  3" x 3" x 6" blank and sandpaper (supplied).  Specialty tools will be made available by the instructor.
  • Pre-requisite:  Introduction to Woodturning and the OVWG LC or a prior T&L series of classes.  Also read and be familiar with the AAW Lathe Safety Guidelines and the Glossary of Woodturning Terms, available on the OVWG website in the document library or by clicking the following links:  AAW Lathe Safety Guidelines and Woodturning Glossary
