  • Topic:  Come have fun with Forstner hollowed ornaments. Cross drilling gives the illusion of hollowing.  Success is dependent on tool control techniques while turning air.  
    Turners should have mastered basic spindle techniques..  
  • Skill Level:  Intermediate. The pace of this class will assume you're very comfortable with gouges.
  • Project:  Turn a globe with insert, finial and cap; a snowman; and a tree. Tools used : spindle roughing gouge, spindle gouge, detail spindle gouge, parting tool, forstner bits, pen mandrel, calipers, four jaw scroll chuck (with #1 and #2 jaws talon…or equivalent). 
  • Materials:  Blanks will be provided.   
  • Pre-requisite:  Introduction to Woodturning and the OVWG LC or a prior T&L spindles series of classes.  Also read and be familiar with the AAW Lathe Safety Guidelines and the Glossary of Woodturning Terms, available on the OVWG website in the document library or by clicking the following links:  AAW Lathe Safety Guidelines and Woodturning Glossary
