  • Topic:  Learn to mount, shape and hollow a basic hollow form vessel. The focus is on the process, and tool use and control.
  • Skill Level:  Intermediate beginner. The pace of this class will assume you know how to round a rough-cut blank, make a tenon, and use bowl and spindle gouges. With those foundational skills, we'll be able to spend more time on the hollowing process.
  • Project:  A simple hollow form with a moderately large opening (more practical for teaching than decorating).
  • Materials:  Blanks will be provided. Please bring your own hollowing tools. That will help you sharpen them appropriately as well as practice with them. HSS and carbide tools are both acceptable.
  • Pre-requisite:  Introduction to Woodturning and the OVWG LC or a prior T&L series of classes.  Also read and be familiar with the AAW Lathe Safety Guidelines and the Glossary of Woodturning Terms, available on the OVWG website in the document library or by clicking the following links:  AAW Lathe Safety Guidelines and Woodturning Glossary
