OHIO VALLEY WOODTURNERS GUILD

I am writing to thank all of you who have renewed your OVWG membership for 2021.  While 2020 members were given an opportunity to roll their membership over into 2021 without paying, many of you chose to pay anyway.  I don't speak for the Board or other members, but I am certain that they appreciate this gesture on your part.  As most of you know the Guild is reasonably well off financially.  This is due in part to the fact that past Board's have been sensitive to the possibility that our financial situation might change and have tried to plan accordingly.  2020 certainly has helped us to see the wisdom of having sufficient funds to carry us through a tough period such as this.  Even though the Guild has been inactive for several months due to COVID, some expenses such as rent (a significant amount) for the Learning Center continue to be a reality.  We could not have foreseen this pandemic and the effects it has had on our operation, but it is nice to know that we have the means to get through this period with minimal damage.  With postponement of the Symposium until 2022 this becomes even more important.  If you have not yet renewed your membership for 2021 I hope that you will do so in the near future.

So with the above in mind I want to again say "thank you" to all who paid for 2021 membership.  You have gone above and beyond what is required.  Your generosity is of great benefit to the OVWG and will help to assure that the Guild remains a financially stable organization.  Now that vaccines are becoming available we can be hopeful of returning to a situation similar to what we enjoyed before the pandemic.  There is much to be learned from future demonstrators and from experiences with fellow turners in the Learning Center.  And, possibly most of all, we can again enjoy the friendship and camaraderie that many of us have experienced through our membership in the OVWG.

In closing I wish each of you a wonderful holiday season and I hope that you and your family stay safe from COVID.  Wearing a mask and taking other CDC recommended precautions are a minor nuisance compared to the other outcomes that so many (including members of my family) have experienced.

Sincerely,
Jerry Warner
