Topic: Turning green wood and podlets.
Skill Level: You need to be comfortable rounding a blank, mounting it in the chuck, and making controlled cuts with bowl & spindle gouges.
Tools/Materials for participants to bring (if available): tools you are comfortable using (bowl gouge, spindle gouge, parting tool).
Wood Requirements: Wet branch wood 2.5 - 4" in diameter. 7-8" long.
Podlets - This is the only wood that would technically need to be wet. When I make them I will use freshly cut wood.
Wood size for Podlets - anything from 2.5 -4" in diameter and 7-8" long. Branch wood is what I use for these. Preferably, the pith needs to be off center. If you cut branches that grow straight out from the tree that usually has the best reaction wood in it. If that can't be found we can use whatever branches people can find.
Wood type for podlets - I have used Oak, Maple, Apple, Cherry. Any fruitwood is good. Oak is great! it usually has a lot of movement when dried. As long as the braches are pretty freshly cut no matter what the wood is we can make it work.
Tool Requirements: Your own or LC provided.
