About this event
Plate with decorative offsets
Turn a different sort of plate. Learn how to create a plate using both offsets and tilts to produce a striking effect. The domed center provides focal point for embellishment. Finish the back side of the platter by shaping an ‘ogee’ curve. Intermediate and advanced turners welcome; experience with multiaxis turning is helpful.
Topic: Learn to turn a plate with offsets. Tools used will include gouges, chucks, and sanding supplies.
Skill Level: Intermediate skills – must have comfort and established abilities with gouges. Carbide-insert tools will NOT work for this project. Experience with multiaxis turning desirable.
Project: Complete an offset plate ready for finish.
Materials: 8-9" diameter blank with waste block in place will be supplied. Specialty tools will be made available by the instructor.
Pre-requisite: Introduction to Woodturning and the OVWG LC or a prior T&L series of classes. Also read and be familiar with the AAW Lathe Safety Guidelines and the Glossary of Woodturning Terms, available on the OVWG website in the document library.
