To all you newer turners who might wonder if it is worth it to come: I (KC) joined the OVWG in 2007 and skipped the symposium. When I went in 2009, I realized I missed a great opportunity to learn many things, to see inspirational demos, even ones I couldn't do at the time, meet pro turners in person, and get to know other OVWG members. Some are among my best friends today. So, give it a try, even if you come for just one day.
Turning 2023 is a great way to immerse yourself in all things woodturning:
- Higher Ground setting is one of the best: rural, isolated from busy city convention centers, everything you need on site, and an easy community from just about anywhere in the greater ti-state area.
- 50 demonstrations to pick from: 10 rotations of 5 demonstrations at a time - 4 on Friday, 4 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. Here is the Rotation Schedule.
- Ashley Harwood, Roberto Ferrer, Matt Monaco, Helen Bailey and Nick Cook will demonstrate lots of informative and entertaining projects. OVWG members and regional guests will round out the program.
- Handouts: many of the demonstrators provide detailed instructions on how to do what they demo. You'll have access to these on-line during and after the event.
- On site dining! Enjoy fellowship with OVWG members, turners from around the region, and the professional and guest turners.
- Fifteen vendors (see the list below) will offer everything from lathes to sandpaper.
- Saturday evening prime rib dinner - fantastic deal at $32.
- Entertaining live auction Saturday evening. Collect work by the pro's and fellow turners, or just enjoy the drama!
- Instant Gallery with lots to see. Bring your work to display. Those who do will receive a raffle ticket to win a prize of $50 in credit at the live auction.
Rooms are also still available in the onsite lodge. All available rooms have two queen beds. There is also room in the onsite dorm and campground. Check the registration page for details.
