Member Appreciation Luncheon

About this event

Fellow Woodturners:

I am writing to invite you and a guest to join the Board of Directors for a Member Appreciation Luncheon (free of charge) scheduled for December 9, 2023.  The year has been a good one for the Guild and members of the Board would like to use this event to thank you for making it so.

We survived COVID 19 and returned to a routine slate of activities that closely resembles that of pre-COVID times.  The biggest event of the year, Symposium 2023, was a great success due to the hard work and contributions of many of our members.  The number of members has increased over the year to reach a total of well over 300.  This success has enabled us to continue to provide the Learning Center for our members and to continue to upgrade the equipment there - a new 3520 Powermatic Lathe from the Symposium.  With this in mind it seems appropriate that we get together to celebrate our success and to thank you for the contributions you made.

This event will be very similar to the one we did last year.  In addition to the luncheon we will have a contest, a gift exchange, and show and tell. These will be organized as follows:

Lunch:  Lunch will be catered.  It will consist of a fall salad, Nantucket veggie medley, pasta primavera, and a choice of either grilled chicken parmesan or Rosemary pork loin.

Desserts:  Desserts will be especially exciting this year.  We are asking that you bring your favorite holiday dessert to share with others. While catered dessert can be good, we think this will provide a lot more variety and that it will be much better. Someone will be available to receive your dessert when you enter the meeting room.

Contest:  To enter the contest you will need to turn a pair of candlesticks.  You are given total freedom to come up with a pair of candlesticks that is unique, beautiful, and functional.  You may use any type of surface enhancement that you choose or none.  Size and shape is entirely up to you.  Be creative and show us what you can do.  If you are reluctant to enter the contest think of it as an opportunity to challenge yourself into trying something new.

Gift Exchange:  To participate in the gift exchange you will need to bring a piece of your turned work to exchange with another member.  The idea is to bring a piece of your work that you are very pleased with and that you would be happy to keep in your personal collection.  Don't bring something that you are not proud of and do not want your name to be associated with.  Your gift piece should be delivered in a gift bag or box so that it is not visible to others.  Each person who brings a gift will be given a numbered ticket when they drop off their gift.   As your number is called you will be able to pick from all items that are available at the time.

Show And Tell:
We know from the Instant Gallery at the Symposium that we have some very talented woodturners in the OVWG.  This is an opportunity for you to show off your work and tell others the techniques you used to produce it.  Since the guests at the luncheon will not have had other opportunities to see this work, it will be a real treat for them.  So, I encourage you to let the rest of see what you are doing in your shop.

To register for this event click the 'Register Now' button above.  When you register you will be asked if you are bringing a guest and to specify which meal each of you wish to have.  If you need help with this let me know.  In order for the caterer to have time to prepare everything appropriately we need to have you register by November 26, 2023 - the Sunday following Thanksgiving.

I look forward to seeing you on December 9.  Please mark your calendar now and register as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
Jerry W.
