Promoting the art and craft of wood turning in the greater Cincinnati area

KHAC Youth Program
In the years before COVID the Kennedy Heights Arts Center ran a summer youth program for kids in the area.  Our Guild supported the program by having a week long hands-on woodturning program as a part of the activities.  Part of the mission of the Guild is to promote the art of woodturning in our community, and one way to do this is to demonstrate and teach the craft.  The KHAC plans to have the Youth Program again this summer and would like for us to make woodturning available as one of the activities.  Working with the youth not only provides a learning opportunity to the kids but allows us to be more involved in the community and enhance the awareness of woodturnig.  In order for us to offer woodturning as one of the activities, we will need membership support.  We strive to have one-on-one mentor support for the kids, so that means we would need to have at least eight of our members helping in the program since we limit the number of kids who can sign up for the woodturning program to eight.  This is a week-long committment, although there is a possibility of sharing the week with another member.  The level of woodturning taught, will be limited to spindle projects, so being concerned about having to do complex projects is not part of the equation.  We just want to have a mentor who can watch over the kids' work and make sure they are working safely and learning skills.  If you would like to support the Guild and the KHAC Youth Program, please contact Bev Connelly at blcclm@fuse.net   Your assistance is greatly appreciated and needed for us to make this happen.  The two time frames that are being considered are June 19-23 and June 26-30, 2023.
